Hamish Gane

Hamish Gane is a photographic artist based in Swansea. His practice draws on ideas surrounding notions of memory and melancholia, predominantly in relation to photography and family, and his work has been exhibited widely. Having formally worked as a lighting technician and designer in London, he relocated to South Wales in the late 1990s to study photography and fine art. He completed his Masters in 2003 and his solo exhibition Apron was at the Mission Gallery, Swansea in 2005. He has been course leader for BA (Hons) Photography in the Arts at Swansea College of Art, University of Wales Trinity St David since 2007, and in 2013 he was awarded a doctorate for his practice-based PhD: 'Photography, Melancholy, Family: Spaces Beyond Representation'.
